What happens when you turn American history into a body?
Students in Josh Trice’s Advanced Placement US History classes found out.
In this project, students created historical portraits of America as a living body—healthy, whole, and thriving. Each limb and organ symbolized a key part of American politics, industry, and society during the nation’s early years. Then came the hard part… 💥
Through a symbolic autopsy, students examined what went wrong. Using injuries and illnesses on their “cadavers,” they explained the political, economic, and social breakdowns that led to southern secession and ultimately the Civil War—from sectional tensions to industrial divides.
🔍 Art became analysis.

Students in Marie Stevenson’s British Literature classes brought Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein into the 21st century by creating their own modern-day monsters—creations born from AI, social media, surveillance, bioengineering, and other powerful technologies. 🧠💻
Through brainstorming and discussion, they explored the dark side of technology: what happens when innovation outpaces responsibility? Who is the real monster—the creation, or the creator?
Creative, thoughtful, and a little unsettling (in the best way). Proof that classic literature still sparks powerful conversations about the world we’re building today. 📚

Croteau Named Varsity Football Head Coach 🏈
Stephen Decatur High School is excited to announce that Russell Croteau will be assuming the helm of the Stephen Decatur Seahawks Football team this coming season.
Coach Croteau brings an impressive résumé, most recently serving as our offensive coordinator for the past six seasons, helping lead Decatur to two state championships, multiple additional titles, numerous all-state selections, and the advancement of dozens of student-athletes to quality Division I, II, and III football programs.
Prior to his time at Decatur, Coach Croteau coached at Salisbury University and Easton High School.
He is looking forward to maintaining the high standards set by outgoing coach, Jake Coleman, while continuing the program’s dominance across the state.
