Driving into the future! 🚘 That’s right - We’re proud to share that Stephen Decatur High School hosted its first on-site administration of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) Learner’s Permit Test.
Nearly 50 students (yes, we hit the limit!) took their shot at earning that coveted learner’s permit — and we’re thrilled to share that dozens walked away with passing scores and big smiles! 😄🪪

Ecosystem services get a glow-up!
Students in Wendie Saullo’s AP Environmental Earth Science put their creativity to work in a “science meets sharpie” style. 🌎🎨
In just 15 minutes, students designed graphic posters illustrating one of the four categories of ecosystem services—provisioning, regulating, cultural, or supporting.
Despite the quick turnaround, they produced thoughtful, visually engaging work that brought complex environmental concepts to life. 🌿👏

Spread the Hope. 💙 A simple jar of peanut butter. A jar of jelly.
For many families, that means lunches made, children fed, and one less worry at the kitchen table.
Thank you to the Kiwanis Club at Stephen Decatur High School for collecting over 300 pounds of peanut butter and jelly for Diakonia’s Food Pantry. Because of your generosity, shelves are fuller, and hope is stronger for our neighbors facing food insecurity.
It’s amazing how something so simple can make such a powerful difference.
#HopeStartsHere and sometimes, it starts with a sandwich. 💙

Students represent on national stage! 🎉
Stephen Decatur High School students, and staff, presented at the National Association for School-University Partnerships conference this past week.
Along with instructor Kristina Cosgrove, Curriculum Resource Teacher Mandi Wells, and Assistant Principal Jen Garton, students spoke about their experiences in our Salisbury University Dual Enrollment EDFN 210: School in a Diverse Society, sharing what they learned about the sociological, historical, and philosophical approaches to education and educational policy, while also completing 30 clinical hours in elementary classrooms.
Our students also shared firsthand how taking college-level courses while still in high school has shaped their confidence, academic goals, and future plans as educators. The students highlighted their favorite parts of the course while detailing the support systems that helped them succeed. They spoke with honesty, insight, and professionalism.
Congratulations to these outstanding students for showcasing their hard work and representing our community so well! 👏📚✨

School Resource Deputy Appreciation Day 🏫👮
Behind every safe school environment is a team of professionals who show up every day with purpose.
Our School Resource Deputies stand in the gap—not only as law enforcement, but as mentors, problem-solvers, protectors, and trusted adults our students can rely on. They build meaningful relationships, de-escalate crises, guide young people in the right direction, and respond without hesitation when it matters most.
Just as importantly, they leave a lasting impact on the students they serve. Through encouragement, accountability, and support, our deputies influence the moments that help shape who a young person becomes. Whether it’s a conversation in the hallway, a calm presence during a challenging day, or stepping in to help a student make a better choice, they help students feel seen, valued, and capable of success.
By investing in relationships and reinforcing positive decision-making, our School Resource Deputies contribute to more than safety—they help build stronger students, stronger schools, and stronger futures. The impact they make today extends far beyond the classroom, helping prepare students to become confident, responsible, and productive members of our community.
Their dedication reflects the very best of public service, and we are truly grateful for all they do for our schools and our community.
Thank you for all you do!!!
