This month, the nation celebrates mental health awareness month. This year's theme is "Take The Moment," which promotes the importance of destigmatizing mental health by normalizing the practice of taking moments to prioritize mental health care.
For our schools, the simple act of publicly acknowledge that they are going to "take a moment" models for students a simple act that empowers them to self-reflect and do the same.
Congratulations to our Premier Driving School Athletes of the Month!

SkillsUSA National Signing Day is May 7
WTHS May 7th SkillsUSA National Signing Day is a nationwide celebration showcasing our next generation of skilled professionals and the skilled career paths that have been, are and always will be essential to America’s future.
Each May, local SkillsUSA chapters are encouraged to host a National Signing Day event and invite industry partners, administrators, teachers, elected officials, SkillsUSA alumni, family and friends to honor students as they sign letters of intent for a job offer, apprenticeship or advanced technical training. SkillsUSA National Signing Day is May 7
With the ongoing labor shortage continuing to affect so many skilled trade areas, generating student interest in pursuing these in-demand, high-paying careers — and honoring those who do — is more vital than ever.

Add Author to the Resume
Senior Simran Jain has added another accomplishment to her already established resume: published author.
Jain’s “Zoya’s Marvelous Adventures in Money,” now available on Amazon, has a target audience of grades 3 – 7. The book follows a 9-year old girl as she explores her world and learns a series of financial lessons along the way. Each chapter covers a different financial topic, culminating in the blossoming of an independent, confident, and financially astute young woman.
Jain is also exploring the possibility of publishing a research article stemming from a presentation that she made before the Secondary Writing Center Association at the University of Massachusetts this past March regarding the challenges and successes of the Stephen Decatur High School Seahawk Writing Center.
In the fall, Jain plans to attend college to major in business and math. She also has aspirations of becoming a novelist.

It’s the last waltz for some giants in our music department! After 30 years, Band Director JD Foell conducts a final performance at our annual Spring Concert. The sounds were melodic, but we are definitely feeling heavy as his days at SDHS come to a decrescendo. Thank you Mr. Foell for your countless hours, parades, marches, concerts, and, most of all, the love of music that you’ve shared with thousands of students. The evening also marked the final performance for our seniors: Saylor Amos, Emily Barnhill, Jersi Hilliard, Anthony Guerriero, Jonah Ridgely, Chandler Smith, and CJ Shoemaker. Keep calm and rock on! 🎶🎼🎵🎹🎺🎷
