Our talented Seahawk musicians have an opportunity of a lifetime! Please consider supporting them in their endeavor to perform at the 2025 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii. Marching Band has been selected to represent Maryland at the 2025 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu - a national honor awarded to just nine bands across the country. Held annually on Dec. 7th, the parage pays tribute to those who served and sacrificed during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, including the crew of the USS Maryland and other state-named battleships. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Worcester County's talented musicians and they need your help to get there! Together, lets send our Seahawks to Hawaii! Our Surfrider Club members have been busy assembling 200 beach clean-up kits for the summer season. ❤️🌎🌊 Kits contain gloves, trash bag, wipes, a Surfrider cleanup data sheet with directions for reporting, pencil, and stickers. Each kit has been assembled with love 💚 for the express purpose of soliciting help to keep our area pristine. Funding for this project came from community members, local businesses, and a BINGO night at The Sterling Tavern. We are now looking for hotel partnerships for participation in this inaugural program. Please contact Mandi Wells at Stephen Decatur High School at (410) 632 - 2962 for more information, or if you are interested in participating. #SDHSGoesGreen #SeahawksServe #SeahawksSoar #SeeUs #DecaturNation #CommunityPartnerships #KeepOurBeachesClean #LeaveOnlyYourFootprints Surfrider Foundation - Ocean City Maryland Chapter Town of Ocean City - Government Worcester County Public Schools MD

💡Spotlight on one of our amazing students: Freshman Abby Bunting used her engineering and 3D printing skills to create a custom piece of equipment for a visually impaired student on the Mardela High School Unified Strength and Conditioning team. Her innovative design, a block that emits sound for the shuttle run event, was created to help the athlete participate more confidently and independently. Abby’s innovative and thoughtful contribution not only demonstrates her technical abilities, but also highlights the power of collaboration and inclusion across schools and school systems. Thank you Abby! #SeahawksSoar #SeahawksServe #DecaturNation #Innovation #SeeUs #InclusionMatters #UnifiedSports Mardela High School Worcester County Public Schools MD

Freshman Carson Nock notches a top 5% finish in national investment competition. 💰 Carson finished 25th in the Capitol Hill Challenge (CHC) out of 1400 teams and over 6000 students. The CHC is a different iteration of the Stock Market Game (SMG). In this investment competition, each member of the House of Representatives sponsors 10 teams from schools in their district. Each team begins with a virtual $100,000 and is challenged to earn the most profit. Students must have a diversified portfolio containing individual stocks, mutual funds and bonds, and short selling is not permitted. Financial literacy is an integral part of our business program. Nock earned his achievement in business department chair Kurt Marx’s Principles of Business course. Pictured are Marx, Mike Detmer (Representative of Congressman Andy Harris), Nock, and Principal Tom Sites. 💸🤑💵 💙🖤🤍 #FinancialLiteracyMatters #SeahawksSoar #SeeUs #MDEconEd #CapitolHillChallenge SIFMA Maryland Council on Economic Education Worcester County Public Schools MD

This isn’t just paint on a wall—it’s a message that matters. At Stephen Decatur High School, a powerful idea became a permanent reminder: that mental health is just as important as physical health, especially for our student-athletes. This mural was created in honor of Morgan's Message, a national nonprofit committed to eliminating the stigma around mental health in athletics. Founded in memory of Morgan Rodgers—Morgan’s Message advocates for equal treatment of mental and physical health in sports, and empowers student-athletes to speak up, support one another, and seek help without shame. The wall now standing at Stephen Decatur High School is the result of months of planning, community support, and student leadership. This was truly built with love from the inside out. We’re incredibly honored we was asked to bring that vision to life through mural art. Massive thanks to the heart-forward staff—Lindsay Owens, Shannon Bone, Wendy Shirk—and the student leaders who spearheaded this from concept to completion. Thank you Freeman Arts Pavilion for helping to bring this to life, the Decatur students and staff, and the entire Ocean City community for showing up. At WALS, we don’t just paint walls—we empower people. We believe murals can educate, connect, and heal. This project reminded us exactly why we do what we do. Let this wall forever speak the words so many need to hear:You are not alone. You are not weak. Your mental health matters. Also: huge love to @chloektattoos , who led design on her first major mural project (and did it beautifully!), @sahraera for your steady talent and teamwork, The Brand for coming out and capturing content of the entire day, and @jay_productions3 for taking some of these incredible photos! Be on the lookout for a mini doc covering the day and project dropping soon!

Frequently Asked Questions Q: Who is a parent/guardian according to the USDA? A: A guardian is the designated primary caregiver for a child. A guardian may be the permanent designated caregiver (i.e. the legally appointed guardian) or the temporary designated caregiver of the child (e.g. a child has been left in the care of their grandparent for the weekend). Note: A licensed caregiver being paid for childcare (i.e. an individual licensed as a family daycare home or an individual who operates an independent childcare center) does not meet this definition. Q: Can I send someone to pick up meals on my child's behalf? A: No, in accordance with USDA regulations, the child(ren)'s parent or guardian as defined above must be present to pick up the meals from a pick-up site. Q: Do I need to register each time I pick up meals? A: No, you only need to register your child(ren) once to participate for the entire duration of the program. Q: Why can't my child participate if they are enrolled in WCPS summer academy? A: Students enrolled in summer academy/school programs within our school system are provided with breakfast and lunch at all school sites. Because of this, they are not eligible to participate as the USDA defines this as a duplication of meals. Other Questions? It’s a beautiful day for a beautiful message, so we built and painted one! 🎨🖌️ Our students and staff have worked all year toward this moment. From fundraisers to pickle ball competitions, staff members, particularly Lindsay Owens, Shannon Bone, and Wendy Shirk, along with student leaders, had a vision to promote the mental well-being of athletes and celebrate our programs. Thus, the MORGAN’s MESSAGE WALL was born. Morgan’s Message® is a 501(c)(3) that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. This project could not have been realized without the incredible help from our community. A special shout-out to We Are Limitless Studios and Freeman Arts Pavilion, and to our faculty and student body, and student alumni, for bringing your talents and hard work to Stephen Decatur High School. 💙🖤🤍 #SeahawksServe #CommunityMatters #DecaturNation #SeeUs #Seahawks #SeahawkPride #SeahawksSoar #OnceASeahawkAlwaysASeahawk #MorgansMessage

School's (Not) Out for Everyone! 🎓☀️ Hey, grads and early summer vacationers, welcome to Ocean City! While you're here celebrating Senior Week, don't forget: Worcester County Public Schools MD are still in session until Tuesday, June 17th. That means school buses are still on the roads and school bus laws are still in effect. 🛑 Maryland School Bus Stop Law: ✅ STOP when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. 🚗 If you're on a divided highway (a physical median separates lanes), only traffic behind the bus must stop 🚙 On two-lane or multi-lane roads without a median, all traffic in both directions must stop Let's keep our roads safe for students, families, and each other.
