It’s National School Counseling Week, and today (and every day), we celebrate our incredible Stephen Decatur High School School Counselors and the extraordinary work they do. ✨
THANK YOU to this FABULOUS FOUR❣️
They are listeners, advocates, problem-solvers, and champions—helping students navigate challenges, discover their strengths, and believe in themselves. Their compassion and commitment make a lasting difference in our school community.
We are so grateful for all that they do. Thank you Val Riley, Denee Bowen, Lauren Sharkey, and Marcea Redden for showing up, caring deeply, and supporting our students every step of the way!
👏👏👏👏

Attention Stephen Decatur High School families:
As we begin the 2nd semester, please talk with your child about the importance of attendance and arrival to school/classes on time. ⏰
Attending school regularly teaches responsibility, time management, and commitment--- all skills that will be necessary to succeed in life after high school! 💡
It is our goal to make a positive difference in the lives of our students and, to do that, we need to see those bright and shiny faces! 😊

History Meets Art and …. Forensics 🇺🇸 🎨🔬
What happens when you turn American history into a body?
Students in Josh Trice’s Advanced Placement US History classes found out.
In this project, students created historical portraits of America as a living body—healthy, whole, and thriving. Each limb and organ symbolized a key part of American politics, industry, and society during the nation’s early years. Then came the hard part… 💥
Through a symbolic autopsy, students examined what went wrong. Using injuries and illnesses on their “cadavers,” they explained the political, economic, and social breakdowns that led to southern secession and ultimately the Civil War—from sectional tensions to industrial divides.
🔍 Art became analysis.
🎨 Creativity met critical thinking.
📜 History came to life.

With wintry weather again in the forecast, we want to share with families that as of today, WCPS has utilized only one (1) of its three (3) days built into the 2025-2026 calendar for inclement weather. In accordance with our virtual day learning plan, all three days will be exhausted prior to utilizing virtual learning.

WCPS families can find below information on where to find inclement weather notifications. For those extended family members who may not receive notifications directly from us, you can stay in the know by downloading our mobile app and enabling notifications:

Download from the Apple App Store: https://apple.co/41QgE9c
Download from the Google Play Store: https://bit.ly/426TLOp

As a reminder, we endeavor to communicate any decisions by 5:30 a.m. at the latest. However, we ask for your patience and understanding in these difficult decisions. Our team not only monitors multiple forecasts and collaborates with other agencies, but they actively travel roads across all regions of the the county to ensure the safety of students and staff. #WeAreWorcester #SafetyMatters

At the beginning of the season, one of our own received the heartbreaking diagnosis of cancer. This news has deeply impacted our entire cheer family. Kamari is such a light, and our hearts are heavy as she and her family face this unimaginable journey.
Please continue to keep Kamari and her family in your prayers, and support them in any way you are able during this incredibly difficult time. Every prayer, kind word, and gesture of love means more than you know. We have linked their GoFundMe below for those who are able and willing to help.

Today’s lesson was alive ⚡️
Students in Marie Stevenson’s British Literature classes brought Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein into the 21st century by creating their own modern-day monsters—creations born from AI, social media, surveillance, bioengineering, and other powerful technologies. 🧠💻
Through brainstorming and discussion, they explored the dark side of technology: what happens when innovation outpaces responsibility? Who is the real monster—the creation, or the creator?
Creative, thoughtful, and a little unsettling (in the best way). Proof that classic literature still sparks powerful conversations about the world we’re building today. 📚

🐾❤️ Kids Against Animal Abuse & Testing (KAAAT) & Leo Club team up for action! ❤️🐾
With temperatures dropping, our amazing students rolled up their sleeves to build warm shelters for our furry friends who need just a little extra protection this winter. 🏠❄️
These shelters may be small, but they’re filled with big hearts.
Shelters will be donated to Worcester County Humane Society and Town Cats in Selbyville.
Together, we’re making a difference—one shelter at a time. 💪✨
